Always read the instructions in full before starting your project. Make sure you are using the correct thread, and the right number of strands. If you use too many strands when using a kit, you may end up running out of thread before your project is finished!
Use the correct needle size for your fabric!
It’s important to make sure the needle is the right size for the project. If the needle is too small it can be difficult to thread and cause your thread to become fuzzy. A needle that is too large will cause holes in the fabric where the needle enters and exits the fabric.
Use a water soluble fabric pen!
Always use a water soluble fabric pen or pencil if marking your design onto fabric. A regular pen can bleed into the fabric and/or may not disappear after washing.
Remove your hoop!
Remember to remove your embroidery hoop when putting away your project for the day, and especially before storing it for any length of time. Leaving the hoop attached can cause permanent creases in the fabric that are very hard to remove. You should also remove your needle from the fabric in case it rusts and stains your fabric.
Wash your hands!
Always make sure you have nice clean hands before handling your project. Watch out for snacking while stitching, no one wants food stains or crumbs on their project!
